‘PCPNDT (Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques) Act is being strictly implemented in the district and any violation of the act will not be tolerated at all.” This was stated by Acting Civil Surgeon Dr Renu Singh, after presiding over a meeting of the PCPNDT Advisory Committee here today. She said that whenever any complaint is received or any deficiency is noticed, legal action is taken immediately. The agenda of the meeting was to bring more improvement in the gender ratio, stricter enforcement of the Act and renewal of registration of Scanning centres.
Dr Renu Singh and District Family Welfare Officer Dr Tamanna said that the checking of ultrasound scan centres in the district is being ensured continuously so that female feticide can be completely curbed.
The officials said that the district-level team constituted by the health department conducts random checks at the scanning centres and records are checked thoroughly. They said female feticide is a punishable offence in India. From the doctor to the examiner and the person conducting the examination, all are considered equally guilty and can be jailed for a minimum of three years if convicted.
The officials said that the health department is committed to eradicating this social evil, for which public support is very much needed. They said if any person wants to give any information about any violation of this act, they can contact Health Department helpline No. 104.
