Electric Hookah, mobiles among other banned items found in packet thrown inside Ferozepur Jail

Ferozepur, February 4

During the last year, 440 mobiles were recovered in Ferozepur jail while during the current year, in the first 34 days, 63 mobiles have been recovered besides other banned items like electrict hooka, mobiles drugs, data cables, zarda etc.

The last five recovery of mobiles had been 5 on January 27, 3 on January 26, 12 mobiles on January 24 and 25, 4 on February 1 and 2 on February 3 in a packet thrown from outside along with 2 sachets of zarda, 12 packs of cigarettes, one data cable, one electric hookah and 19 gm substance like ‘ganja’.

Ironically, the Ferozepur jail is surrounded by high rising buildings and open space along with the back wall and the police find it difficult to track movement of people in these private properties. There had been a number of incidents in the past of throwing of packets inside the jail with banned items and the Chinese mobiles are so small which can be thrown by putting in the balls.

Expressing concern over the regular smuggling in of mobiles inside the jail and at the same time recovery of 4,500 mobiles by the vigilant jail staff, Punjab Governor, Banwari Lal Purohit during his visit to the border districts in Ferozepur said, the jammer is best option to block network in jails. With the installation of jammers, there will be a break in the network of the smugglers-prisoners from the jail.

According to the jail officials, the process of installing jammers has been started from the jail headquarter side, for which the survey has been started.  Jammer is such a new technology which blocks the frequency between the tower and mobile and it is one of the best options now.
