Dr. Aulakh delivers lecture on recent advances in urological cancers at 8th Family Physician Cancer Update 2025

The 8th Family Physician Cancer Update 2025 was held at Hotel Onn, Ludhiana, bringing together a distinguished gathering of renowned medical professionals, including cancer specialists, medical oncologists, gastroenterologists, haematologists, and surgical gastroenterologists.

Dr. Aulakh, Chief Urologist, Transplant Surgeon, and Chairman of Aykai Hospital, delivered a highly informative lecture on recent surgical advances in the management of kidney, bladder, and prostate cancers. His talk was a highlight of the event, offering key insights into the latest treatment modalities in the field of urological oncology.

He stressed that diagnosis of urology cancers at early stage is very important. For kidney cancer simple abdominal ultrasound give us enough information which can be confirmed with CT scan of abdomen. Likewise in bladder cancer, painless passage of blood in urine is considered to be ominous sign, which can be confirmed on ultrasound, CT abdomen & Cystoscopy. Prostate cancer requires a simple blood test called as PSA which if raised should be followed by ultrasound guided biopsy.

Dr. Aulakh emphasized the growing role of minimally invasive laparoscopic surgeries available at Aykai Hospital, which are now widely used in the treatment of all types of urological cancers. He outlined the numerous benefits of laparoscopic procedures, including reduced postoperative pain, shorter hospital stays, smaller incisions, and faster return to daily activities—even following major surgeries. He also stressed on laparoscopic kidney saving surgery in kidney cancer.

The session was particularly valuable for budding physicians and surgeons, who gained practical knowledge from Dr. Aulakh’s vast clinical experience and forward-looking approach to cancer surgery.
