District Legal Services Authority Patiala conducts orientation trainings for special legal units

 As per the guidelines issued by National Legal Services Authority and under the able guidance of Rupinderjit Chahal, Ld. District and Sessions Judge cum Chairperson, District Legal Services Authority, Patiala,   Orientation Trainings for Special Legal Services Unit for Children (LSUC) and Special Legal Services Unit for Persons with Mental Illness & Persons with Intellectual Disabilities called ‘Manonyay’ (LSUM)  were organized by District Legal Services Authority, Patiala as per Orientation Training Module on 03.01.2025 and 04.01.2025. During the training programmes, all the members of Special Legal Services Unit for Children (LSUC) and Special Legal Services Unit for Persons with Mental Illness & Persons with Intellectual Disabilities called ‘Manonyay’ (LSUM)  were sensitized by Ms Dipti Goyal, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Patiala  about NALSA (Child Friendly Legal Services for Children) Scheme, 2024 and NALSA (Legal Services to Persons with Mental Illness and Persons with Intellectual Disabilities) Scheme, 2024.

Apart from this, they were also made aware about these schemes, various laws and roles & responsibilities of legal services providers towards implementation of the schemes by resource persons Gagandeep Singh , Chief LADC,  Sarabdeep Singh Sandhu, Assistant LADC, Patiala,  Harleen Kaur, Panel Advocate, Sarabjeet Kaur LADC, Shina Kapoor DCPO, Patiala, Manmeet Kaur Panel Advocate, Roobik Sood, Panel Advocate, Sarabdeep Singh LADC, Patiala.

On this occasion Dipti Goyal, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, Patiala told that the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) has updated two significant schemes. These schemes are the revised versions of the NALSA Scheme of legal services to mentally ill and mentally disabled persons, 2015 and the NALSA Scheme of Legal Services to children including children with disabilities. These schemes aim to provide more effective legal services, aligning with the legislative provisions under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act and the Mental Healthcare Act. The primary goal is to ensure access to legal services for persons with mental illness and intellectual disabilities.

In addition to this Dipti Goyal highlighted the availability of free legal services,  NALSA Helpline number 15100, which provides easy access to legal aid and  emphasized the benefits of the Permanent Lok Adalat (Public Utility Services) and Lok Adalats, which offer alternative dispute resolution mechanisms and upcoming National Lok Adalat, scheduled to take place on March 8, 2025.
