District administration chalks out comprehensive strategy to stop stubble burning

To curb the stubble burning in the coming paddy season, district administration Kapurthala has chalked out a comprehensive strategy which includes running an awareness campaign at village level besides keeping a hawk eye on stubble burning cases at various levels .

As per the orders of the National Green Tribunal, a District Level Coordination and Monitoring Committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner, Kapurthala.

Besides that SSP, ADC (Development), Executive Engineer of Punjab Pollution Control Board, District Revenue officer will be the members and Chief Agriculture Officer will be the convenor of the committee.

The Committee meetings will be held weekly, in which review of the awareness activities and action taken against fire incidents will be made.

Apart from this, the Chairman of the Sub-Divisional Monitoring Committee at ‘Tehsil level’ will be the Sub-Divisional Magistrate besides having DSP and BDPO as its members and Block Agriculture Officer will be the convener. The committee meeting will be held daily.

Deputy Commissioner Amit kumar Panchal also made it clear that under new strategy, Government officials/employees will be watched closely by village level teams so that they should not burn stubble in their fields . He said that if any employees found guilty on that , he/she will face strict action besides making adverse entries in their service record .

Urging the farmers to play a pro-active role in curbing stubble burning as they did to make the country self reliant in food production, Deputy commissioner Panchal said that the farmers must avail the subsidies of machinery for crop residue management by applying till September 19.

He also announced that the district administration will also facilitate the farmers/ villages / Panchayats having “zero stubble “ burning cases .
