Desh Bhagat University hosts national seminar on ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’

The Faculty of Social Sciences and Languages, Desh Bhagat University, in collaboration with the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), has organisized a two-day National Seminar titled “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam: A Bharat-Centric Approach to Holistic Human Development”. The seminar aims to explore the Indian philosophical perspective on global unity and holistic human progress.

The event was honored by the presence of Dr. Zora Singh, Chancellor of Desh Bhagat University, as the Chief Guest, and Dr.Tajinder Kaur, Pro-Chancellor, as the Guest of Honor. Their insightful addresses highlighted the importance of integrating India’s rich cultural and philosophical ethos in contemporary developmental paradigms.

In the Inaugural Ceremony of the first day of the seminar featured prominent scholars and thought leaders from various fields. The keynote speakers included:Prof. (Dr.) Kuldeep Agnihotri, Executive Vice Chairman, Haryana Sahitya and Sanskrit Academy, Panchkula, and Former Vice Chancellor, Central University, Himachal Pradesh,Sh. Umendra Dutt, Executive Director, Kheti Virasat Mission, Faridkot, and a well-known proponent of natural farming and environmental conservation Dr. Rajnish Arora, Managing Director, Amritsar Group of Colleges, and Chairman of the National Coordination Committee for Induction Programme, AICTE (Online),Prof. Harpal Singh, Senior Fellow, Indian Institute of Advanced Studies, Shimla,Prof. Bawa Singh, Former Chairman, Minority Commission, Government of India, Prof. Avtar Singh, Ramgarhia College, Phagwara,Dr. Ramesh Arora, Professor of Agriculture, Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib.

The experts shared their perspectives on India’s role in shaping a harmonious and sustainable world order, emphasizing holistic approaches to human development rooted in Indian traditions and values. On this ocassion Dr Surjit Kaur Patheja, Prof Kulbhushan Kumar, Prof Dharmender Singh, Prof Ajaypal Singh, Prof Kanwaljit Singh, Dr Renu Sharma and Dr Jyoti Sharma were presesent. Throughout the first-day seminar, various sessions delved into the themes of spirituality, sustainable development, cultural heritage, and education. Scholars and researchers discussed how the principle of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ (The world is one family) can guide policies and strategies for inclusive growth and development.

The seminar concluded with a felicitation ceremony, where distinguished speakers and participants were honored for their valuable contributions. The event was a remarkable success, fostering intellectual discussions and collaborative ideas aimed at integrating Bharat-centric philosophies into contemporary human development frameworks.
