Prompt action by District Administration Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar helped to contain a fire that erupted at a Chemical factory at Behra road, Derabassi by late evening (7:55 pm) to keep the surrounding community out of risk successfully, said the Deputy Commissioner, Aashika Jain, here, today.
Divulging the details, the Deputy Commissioner, Jain said that earlier today, at approximately 3:00 PM, the Administration was alerted to a fire outbreak at the Maggo Chemical & Pharmaceutical located in Behra, Derabassi.
Immediate action was taken, and the local fire department, along with emergency response teams, were dispatched to the scene to contain and manage the situation. Over 100 firemen including 15 fire tenders were sent from Derabassi, Zirakpur, Chandigarh, Mohali and Ammunition Depot who successfully doused the flames by the late evening.
She further said that ADC, SAS Nagar, Viraj S. Tidke, (IAS), SDM, Derabassi Himanshu Gupta (PCS), Tehsildar Birkaran Singh and SHO Ajitesh Kaushal reached the spot immediately. The whole operation was overseen by the ADC and SDM till the control was on fire, she added.
ADC Viraj S Tidke said that Fire teams under the directions of Fire Officer, Derabassi, Jaswant Singh successfully contained the fire from further broke out and efforts are ongoing to extinguish any remaining hotspots.
There have been no reported casualties or injuries resulting from this incident, and the surrounding communities are not at immediate risk, said the Additional Deputy Commissioner by adding that a thorough search operation would be resumed tomorrow to check any further loss.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the District Administration is working closely with the management of Maggo Chemical and Pharmaceutical to ensure that all necessary measures are taken to address the aftermath of the fire effectively and will also work in collaboration with relevant regulatory bodies to enforce safety protocols and prevent similar occurrences in the future.
