To prevent incidents of stubble burning during the paddy season, Deputy Commissioner Madam Poonamdeep Kaur held a meeting with cluster officers and said that every possible effort should be made to reduce or eliminate the number of fire spots this year compared to last year.
The Deputy Commissioner said that stubble burning reduces the fertility of the soil, which directly affects the quality and yield of the crop. He said that we all need to be vigilant to provide a livable environment to our future generations.
He said that this time 2-2 assistant clusters will also be set up along with the cluster officers and they should visit the fields from time to time and if any farmer is found setting fire to paddy stubble, appropriate legal action should be taken against him immediately. Apart from this, the nodal officers of the concerned villages will personally contact the farmers over phone and motivate them not to burn paddy stubble. He said that camps should be organized at every village and block level to make farmers aware of the need to prevent burning of paddy stubble during the paddy season. He directed that all the arrangements should be completed before the season starts.
On this occasion, Chief Agriculture Officer Dr. Kulwant Singh said that various machines for handling paddy stubble will be provided to the farmers on subsidy so that paddy stubble can be saved from fire.
SDM Faridkot Major Varun Kumar, SDM Jaito Sri Suraj, DRO Lovepreet Kaur and cluster officers were present on this occasion.
