DC takes stock of poll preparedness, holds meeting with nodal officer

Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Amit Kumar Panchal on Tuesday held a detailed meeting with all Assistant Returning Officers, Police officials and nodal officers to review the preparations and arrangements for Lok Sabha polls.

Accompanied with the SSP Vatsala Gupta, the District Election Officer Amit Kumar Panchal pointed out that the law & order situation should be maintained at all costs during elections besides timely accomplishing adequate arrangements at all polling stations. He said the security and vigil should be increased as the election process was gaining momentum so as to ensure free and fair polls.

Deputy Commissioner also took detailed information from all Assistant Returning Officers and asked them to increase vigil in their areas in association with police and other officials concerned. Of total four assembly constituencies including Kapurthala and Sultanpur Lodhi fall in Lok Sabah segment Khadoor Sahib while the other two Phagwara and Bholath are in Hoshiarpur parliament constituency, said Panchal adding that vulnerable polling stations, areas and anti social elements could be identified well in advances with a close tab to ensure peaceful elections.

 

SSP Vatsala Gupt also directed the police officials to further enhance the daily vigil besides setting up nakas at all boundaries of Kapurthala district. She said that all the suspicious activities should be tapped so that requisite actions could be taken, if needed.

Deputy Commissioner also interacted with the nodal officers to review the ongoing SVEEP activities, training of polling staff, providing material to polling parties and implementation of Model Code of Conduct in true spirit. He also directed the expenditure monitoring committee to keep all the record of political activities and the expenditure incurred on these programs. He said that the complaints and requests being received on cVigil, SAMADHAN and SUVIDHA apps should be resolved within stipulated time as given by the ECI.

A voter helpline has also been setup in room no 306 at District Administrative Complex as well as launching a dedicated toll free helpline no. 1950 to facilitate public to get any info related to polls, he added.

 

Prominent amongst those present in the meeting included Municipal Commissioner Anupam Kaler, ADC Shikha Bhagat, SP (D) Sarbjit Rai, SP (Traffic) Tejbir Singh, SP (Hqrs) Gurpreet Singh, SP Manjit Singh, Phagwara SP Rupinder Kaur, SDMs Dr. Irwin Kaur, Jashanjit Singh, Sanjeev Sharma and Jaspreet Singh, Phagwara MC Joint Commissioner Kulpreet Singh, Election Tehsildar Manjit Kaur and other officials of different departments.
