Dallewal’s hunger strike enters 38th Day; Farmers to hold Maha Panchayat on Jan 4 at Khanauri border

Ferozepur, January 3

On the 38th day of farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal’s indefinite hunger strike at the Khanauri Kisan Morcha, his health reached a critical stage. According to a medical bulletin issued by doctors, his body has deteriorated to the point where only bones remain, and he is physically extremely weak. Despite repeated appeals from law enforcement and the Supreme Court, Dallewal continues to refuse medical assistance.

Farmer leaders have announced that on January 4, a Maha Panchayat will take place at the Khanauri border, where thousands of farmers from across the country are expected to gather to hear Dallewal’s message. Committees have been formed to coordinate preparations for the event. Additionally, farmers will celebrate Guru Gobind Singh Parkash Parv at the same venue on January 6.

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha issued statements emphasizing their adherence to constitutional boundaries and respectful language in their demands and communications. Leaders reiterated that all statements are aligned with Dallewal’s sentiments.

Speaking about the prolonged struggle, they said that when justice is denied elsewhere, the judiciary remains the final hope. They have appealed to the Supreme Court to direct the central government to implement the recommendations of parliamentary and Supreme Court-appointed committees regarding the Minimum Support Price (MSP) guarantee law.

Today, a significant contingent of farmers from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, led by Kuruburu Shantakumar and P.R. Pandyan joined the Khanauri protest. Meanwhile, the Punjab government remains optimistic that the central government will initiate talks with the farmers to resolve the deadlock.

Farmer leader Baldev Singh Pandher expressed confidence, stating, “We will get our demands accepted.”
