Prof Tara Singh Kamal Honoured with Eminent Engineering Personality Award at 40th National Convention

Chandigarh , December 4: The Institution of Engineers (India) felicitated Prof (Dr) Tara Singh Kamal with the prestigious Eminent Engineering Personality Award during the 40th National Convention of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineers held at Faridabad from December 3–4, 2025.
Prof (Dr) Kamal is currently serving as Professor of Practice, School of Science and Emerging Technologies, Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University, Patiala. A Fellow of The Institution of Engineers (India), a Fellow of IETE, and Life Senior Member of IEEE (USA), he is also a noted Chartered Engineer with decades of distinguished service to the engineering fraternity.
A Gold Medalist from University of Roorkee (now IIT Roorkee), Prof (Dr) Kamal completed his Ph.D. from Punjab University in 1983 with specialization in PSK communication systems under interference noise. His illustrious academic and administrative career includes leadership roles such as Principal of Guru Teg Bahadur Khalsa Institute of Engineering & Technology, Head of Electronics and Communication Engineering Department at SLIET Longowal, and significant contributions at Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh.
Prof (Dr) Kamal has authored over 200 research publications and has been awarded several national honours, including:
•National Award for Lifetime Contribution in Electronics and Telecommunications (2003)
•Sir Thomas Ward Memorial Medal (twice)
•Delivery of the Platinum Jubilee Lecture of ISCA (2008)
His contributions to engineering education, research, and technological advancement have shaped generations of engineers across India.
The award was presented in recognition of his outstanding service to the advancement of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering and his continued commitment to academic excellence and professional leadership.
