Aiming to spread awareness of labor rights, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh celebrated International Labour Day with a large number of workers participating in various programs across the city, including cultural performances, programs meetings, etc.
Acknowledging their dedication and resilience in ensuring a healthier workplace, the MC Chandigarh has organized an on-site preventive health check-up camp at C&D waste plant, Industrial area, Phase-I, here today to mark Labour Day. A
iming to diagnose respiratory and lung-related issues developed due to exposure to hazardous work environments, nearly 200 labourers were checked during the camp.
The Municipal Commissioner Anindita Mitra, IAS thanked the labour force for their contribution in building the nation and said that the labourers toil day and night contributing immensely in the progress of the city beautiful.
She said that the MCC also renewed the commitment towards the welfare of its workers and to bring prosperity in their lives.
She extended her gratitude and appreciation to all the workers of every field and said that the MCC has cleared the arrears of 7th Pay Commission to its class 4 staff giving them huge relief.
Similar programmes were organized at Central Plaza, Sector 17, where the Medical Officer of Health and other senior officers of MCC honoured sanitation workers, who play a crucial role in maintaining public hygiene and cleanliness, often working long hours in difficult conditions.
At Water Works, Sector 32 to honour Safaimitras and employees of the public health wing besides a similar programme was organized at Horticulture Stores at Sector 47, 33 and 36 to honour gardeners and workers of the Horticulture wing.
In a programme held at Garbage Processing Plant, workers were honoured by the senior officers for their dedication and hard work towards segregation and processing of waste produced from the city.
In addition to that a cultural programme was organized by the workers of B&R wing, MCC at Rani Laxmi Bai Mahila Bhawan, Sector 38 where their hard work and contributions towards the city was recognized by the senior officers of MCC.
The Commissioner extended her gratitude towards the hard work of workers and acknowledged the essential role that these workers play in maintaining the city’s roads, parks, street lights, market areas, public places and infrastructure. She thanked them for their efforts in keeping the city’s transportation network running smoothly.
She said that the MCC took pride in recognizing the hard work of its employees, especially on International Labour Day. The city recognizes the dedication and commitment of all workers and acknowledges their contribution to the city’s growth and development, she added.
