Chandigarh, November 24: Leading the IT revolution will be Infosys Limited, one of India’s leading information technology giants, has announced plans to invest ₹300 crore in establishing a new, state-of-the-art campus in Mohali, Punjab. Thisd was stated by industry minister Sanjeev Arora, who shared the development recently during a press conference in Chandigarh. The proposed facility will be developed on a sprawling 30-acre site within Mohali’s rapidly growing IT City area, a zone the state government hopes to transform into a major technology and innovation hub.

Arora elaborated that the project will roll out in multiple phases. During the first phase, Infosys intends to construct approximately 3 lakh square feet of built-up space. The minister estimated that this stage of development will take around three years to complete after the company secures all required regulatory approvals. Once operational, the first phase alone is projected to create about 2,500 new jobs, offering a significant boost to Mohali’s IT employment landscape and contributing to the region’s economic growth. In the second phase, an additional 4.8 lakh square feet of infrastructure will be added, further expanding the campus’s capacity and scope.

Interestingly, this project has been a long time in the making. Infosys had originally planned to set up a major centre in Mohali nearly a decade ago. The foundation stone was laid in February 2014 by former Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, with Infosys founder and executive chairman NR Narayana Murthy present at the ceremony. Despite the high-profile launch, the initiative stalled, and construction did not advance as expected at the time. But things are about to become more positive.

Even so, Infosys has maintained a footprint in the region. The company established a functioning centre in Mohali in 2017, which has steadily grown in operations over the years.
