Chandigarh, November 6: Senior Congress leader and former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Wednesday announced a series of protests and candle marches, extending full support to Rahul Gandhi’s allegations of widespread voter fraud in the 2024 Haryana Assembly elections. Hooda accused the Election Commission of India (ECI) of “collaborating” with the BJP to manipulate results and “steal the people’s mandate.”

Addressing a press conference with Haryana PCC chief Rao Narender Singh and former state Congress president Udai Bhan, Hooda said the election outcome “defied both logic and public sentiment,” noting that “no pre-poll survey had projected the BJP beyond 29 seats.”

Hooda claimed that Rahul Gandhi had presented “concrete evidence” of electoral malpractice — including sudden surges in vote counts, duplicate voter entries, and fake identities. “On polling day, the turnout was reported at 61.19%. By the 7th, it jumped to 67.9%. Where did that extra 6% come from? That’s about 15,000 additional votes per constituency,” he alleged.

Calling the developments a “serious blow to democratic credibility,” Hooda demanded a formal explanation from the Election Commission. He pointed out that the Congress was leading in 73 constituencies during postal ballot counting but fell behind after the EVM votes were added. “In the past five elections, the party leading in postal ballots has always formed the government. This time was the exception — and that cannot be ignored,” he said.

Hooda further asserted that the Congress’s vote share had risen by 11% compared to the previous election and dismissed any talk of internal divisions.

Echoing Hooda’s remarks, Rao Narender Singh said Rahul Gandhi’s findings had “exposed a systematic subversion of democracy.” He alleged that 25 lakh fake votes were cast — “one in every eight votes was bogus.” “This isn’t just a Congress issue; it’s about protecting the Constitution itself,” he said.

The state Congress announced that district-level protests would begin later this week. Singh also alleged that fake voters were created using photos of an alleged Brazilian model. “In 10 polling booths, 22 votes carried the same photo under different names. One booth alone had 223 such cases, and one household had 501 registered voters. Across the state, we identified 1.24 lakh fake photographs,” he claimed.

He further alleged that several BJP workers were registered as voters in both Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, and that even a house numbered “0” had “hundreds of voters.” “That’s how deep this fraud runs,” Singh said.
