The problem of traffic chaos at Dhakoli Railway Crossing will be the thing of the past as the DC Ashika Jain and Railway Authorities conducted a joint visit to finalise the design of the proposed underpass so that the construction could be started soon.
Divulging details, the Deputy Commissioner, Ashika Jain said that the years old railway crossing was the major traffic bottleneck on Kalka-Ambala T point at Zirakpur. Now, the state government has taken initiative to remove the bottleneck with the help of the underpass. The project would be completed on a share of 50-50 and during today’s visit, the design has been approved in principle to pave the way for construction. This underpass further reduce the traffic chaos near Police Station Dhakoli and Civil Hospital Zirakpur, she further added. She said that an approximate estimate of Rs 8 Crore has been assessed.
The deputy commissioner also took stock of the ongoing project of cleaning and resectioning of Sukhna Choe that has been undertaken for the first time as an important flood protection work. She said that the Choe which carries the surplus storm water of Sukhna lake, meets the Ghaggar at Bhankharpur, was in dire need of cleanliness to carry storm water at its full capacity. The project worth Rs one crore is near completion and the deadline has been fixed as June 30, she added.
The deputy commissioner asked the SDM Dera Bassi, Himanshu Gupta, present there to follow up the Railway underpass project regularly so that it can be kickstarted well on time by completing all the formalities. She also stressed the need for timely completion of the cleanliness and Resectioning work of Sukhna Choe to avert flood like situations in the wake of the rainy season in areas adjacent to Baltana and Zirakpur.
