The notification issued by Chandigarh DC yesterday announcing the election of the Mayor on Feb 6 has been challenged in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. It has been challenged in the same petition filed by AAP councillor Kuldeep Kumar yesterday regarding the postponement of the election. It is likely to be taken up in the court on Jan 23 with the main petition.
Notably, on Thursday, the Punjab and Haryana High Court issued a notice to the Chandigarh Administration and Municipal Corporation for January 23 in response to a petition filed by Kuldeep Kumar demanding fair and transparent elections for the posts of Mayor, Senior Deputy Mayor, and Deputy Mayor of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation.
Anil Mehta, the senior standing counsel for Chandigarh, contended that a law and order issue was the reason behind the elections’ postponement during the hearing before the division bench of Justices Sudhir Singh and Harsh Bunger.
