The Punjab State Commission for the Protection of Child Rights has taken suo-moto cognizance of private schools in the state failing to comply with the Education Department’s orders regarding school opening timings during the summer and winter seasons.

The Chairman of the Commission, Kanwardeep Singh, said that some private schools are not following the Education Department’s instructions and are opening before the set time. This puts children’s safety at risk, especially in foggy and cold weather. Recent school bus incidents in different areas have highlighted these dangers.

The Commission has taken strict notice of the matter and directed the School Education Department to take stringent action against private schools violating government orders. He said that if a school does not follow government orders and an accident happens, the principal and management of the school will be responsible.

The Commission has also directed all District Education Officers, Child Protection Officers, and the Police Department to take immediate action to ensure schools comply with government orders.
