LPG Price Hike Delivers Pre-Budget Shock: Commercial Cylinders Up by ₹50

New Delhi, February 1, 2026: Just ahead of the central budget presentation, the general public and businesses received a major inflation jolt. Oil companies announced a roughly ₹50 increase in commercial LPG cylinder prices effective today, February 1. In a small relief, domestic LPG cylinder prices remain unchanged.

New Rates for Commercial Cylinders (19 kg) in Major Cities
According to figures released by oil companies, the updated prices are:

  • Delhi: ₹1,740.50 (up ₹49 from ₹1,691.50)

  • Kolkata: ₹1,844.50 (up ₹49.50 from ₹1,795)

  • Mumbai: ₹1,692 (up ₹49.50 from ₹1,642.50)

  • Chennai: ₹1,899.50 (up ₹50 from ₹1,849.50)

Domestic Cylinders (14.2 kg) Stay Steady
Household cooking gas prices are unchanged. In Delhi, a domestic cylinder costs ₹853, and in Patna, it’s ₹951. Over the past five years, budget-day prices for domestic cylinders have seen no changes, while commercial rates have fluctuated.

Budget-Day LPG Trends from Past Years

  • 2022: Commercial cylinder in Delhi dropped ₹91.50.

  • 2023: No change in prices.

  • 2024: Commercial cylinder rose ₹18.

  • 2025: Minor ₹6.50 cut in commercial cylinder price.

  • 2026: Sharp ₹50 hike in commercial cylinder rates.

This increase will likely raise food costs at restaurants, dhabas, and hotels. The pre-budget adjustment has heightened market concerns over inflation.
