Suspended DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar Gets Major Setback: High Court Rejects Bail Plea
Chandigarh: February 16, 2026
Punjab & Haryana High Court dismissed bail petition of suspended Punjab Police DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar. Court ruled no relief possible for serious office abuse and corruption charges. Bhullar remains lodged in Chandigarh’s Burail Jail.
Defense lawyer challenged CBI evidence, claiming “seva and pani” (service-water) terms in charge sheet don’t prove bribery—could mean something else. Alleged document contradictions on bribe amounts.
CBI counsel Narinder Singh countered: Bhullar instructed middleman to accept any amount but ensure full ₹8 lakh payment. As senior officer and ex-DGP’s son, his influence could tamper investigation.
Arrest: October 16, 2025 from Mohali office; accused of ₹5 lakh bribe.
Raids Yield: ₹7.5 crore cash, luxury watches, foreign liquor seized from residence.
Other Cases: Punjab Vigilance Bureau filed disproportionate assets case.
Bhullar recently sought mattress citing back pain; court directed jail superintendent for rule-based action. His bank accounts already frozen.
