Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann today made a series of major announcements in favor of farmers, labourers, and common citizens affected by the devastating floods in the state.
Mann declared that farmers whose fields have been filled with flood-deposited sand will receive government assistance to restore their land. In addition, compensation of ₹20,000 per acre will be provided to farmers for damaged crops.
For families who lost loved ones during the floods, the government will provide ₹4 lakh ex-gratia compensation. Those whose houses were destroyed will also be given financial assistance to rebuild.
To ease the burden on farmers, the Chief Minister announced a six-month moratorium on agricultural loans, with no interest charged during this period. Livestock owners will also be given assistance, along with a government-supported vaccination drive for animals.
Addressing health concerns after the floods, Mann said the state government will deploy fogging machines in 1,700 villages to control the spread of vector-borne diseases.
“These steps are to ensure that our farmers, labourers, and citizens stand on their feet again after this disaster,” Mann said while making the announcement.
