Holi’s Mega Gift: Yogi Government to Distribute 1.86 Crore Free LPG Cylinders, Know How to Avail Benefits
01 March 2026 | Lucknow
The Uttar Pradesh government has provided major relief to poor families during the festival season. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath released a refill subsidy of Rs 1,500 crore on Saturday for 1.86 crore beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. Under this scheme, beneficiaries can get one cylinder refilled for free from their nearest gas agency on the occasion of Holi. Notably, the Yogi government had promised in 2022 to provide two free cylinders annually on Holi and Diwali, which is now being implemented.
PMUY Scheme Overview
The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), launched in 2016 to free poor women from smoke, has about 10.5 crore connections nationwide. The central government recently increased the subsidy to Rs 300 per cylinder to reduce inflation’s burden on the public. Additionally, approval has been given for 25 lakh new connections in the next financial year. Women applying for new connections must have essential documents like Aadhaar card, ration card, and bank account, after which they can apply via the online portal.
LPG Price Updates
While domestic gas cylinder prices remain stable, commercial cylinder prices have risen. In Delhi, the 19 kg commercial cylinder now costs Rs 1,768.50, marking the third hike this year. However, there has been no change in 14.2 kg domestic cylinder prices since April 2025, providing relief to common consumers. This government step will not only aid poor families economically but also bring joy to their homes during festivals.
