Dalai Lama Clarifies on Epstein Files Mention: “Allegations Baseless and Fabricated”

Dharamshala/New Delhi: February 9, 2026

Recent disclosures from files linked to infamous American criminal Jeffrey Epstein have stunned the world. The mention of the Tibetan spiritual leader, the 14th Dalai Lama, in these documents has sparked a major controversy. However, the Dalai Lama’s office has issued an official statement outright rejecting these allegations.

Dalai Lama’s Office Stance

The statement from the Dalai Lama’s office asserts he never had any connection with Jeffrey Epstein. It clearly states:

  • The Dalai Lama never met Epstein.

  • He never sent any representative to interact with Epstein on his behalf.

  • Viral social media reports and posts are completely misleading, false, and devoid of facts.

Pema Khandu’s Strong Objection

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has also expressed outrage. He called it highly condemnable to link a sacred spiritual institution and a personality like the Dalai Lama to a criminal. Khandu described it as a deliberate conspiracy that hurts the religious sentiments of millions of devotees.

What are the Jeffrey Epstein Files?

Jeffrey Epstein was an American financier accused of serious charges including sexual exploitation of women and underage girls, and human trafficking. He died in jail in 2019. Recently released U.S. Justice Department documents—over 3 million pages and thousands of videos—have named politicians, film stars, and high officials from around the world. So far, several top officials in five countries have resigned following these revelations.

Note: Supporters of the Dalai Lama say appearing in such files doesn’t mean involvement in wrongdoing; names can appear due to contact lists or public events.
