Bloody Game Before Bangladesh Elections: Hindu Trader Brutally Murdered in Mymensingh
Dhaka/Mymensingh: February 10, 2026
Violence has erupted in Bangladesh just three days before general elections. On Monday night, 62-year-old Hindu trader Susen Chandra Sarkar was stabbed to death inside his own shop in Trishal sub-district of Mymensingh. The incident has once again raised serious questions about minority safety in the country.
Incident Details:
Police say the attack occurred around 11 PM while Susen was at his rice shop “Bhai Bhai Enterprises.” Unidentified assailants attacked with sharp weapons and fled after locking the shop shutter from outside. When family members arrived searching for him, they found Susen in a pool of blood after opening the shutter. He was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.
Robbery or Political Conspiracy?
Family’s Side: Victim’s son Sujan Sarkar said assailants looted several lakh rupees from the shop. He added his father had no personal enmities.
Election Context: Locals view the killing, right before PM elections, as an attempt to spread terror.
International Concerns:
Notably, the US recently warned about minority safety ahead of Bangladesh elections. Pressure mounts on Muhammad Yunus-led interim government for failing to stop attacks on Hindus.
Trishal Police have registered a case and begun investigation, but no arrests yet. Tension prevails in the area amid elections.
