The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab today lauded the Punjab Police for its swift and decisive action in identifying and arresting the perpetrators involved in the recent murder of a municipal councilor in Chheharta of Amritsar district. The efficient handling of the case by Punjab Police showcases their competence and independence, free from any political pressure under the AAP government.
AAP leader Baltej Pannu said that no minister, MLA, or leader of the party provides any shelter or support to gangsters or drug peddlers, in stark contrast to previous regimes. Addressing baseless allegations by opposition leader Bikram Singh Majithia, Pannu said that the previous Akali-BJP government from 2007 to 2017 not only witnessed the birth of gangster culture but allowed it to thrive unchecked.
“During their rule, Punjab saw the rise of gangsters, with incidents like a police officer being shot dead for protecting his daughter’s honour and criminals dancing on his body. Their so-called youth leaders were involved in heinous crimes, including eloping with minors and orchestrating the Nabha jailbreak incident,” Pannu said in a statement.
AAP criticized Majithia for attempting to politicise the murder of a young man and forgetting his own record during the Akali-BJP era. “Every Punjabi remembers how the gangster culture flourished under their watch. The Akali leadership’s association with such elements is well-known,” Pannu added.
The Aam Aadmi Party government, led by CM Bhagwant Mann, has taken a firm stance against gangsterism and criminal activities. “We have no place for individuals who support or are connected with gangsters. The law enforcement agencies under our government act impartially and with complete independence,” said Pannu.
Neel Garg to Bikram Majithia – Don’t Do Politics over Corpses, Gangsterism Is a Product of Your Government
Neel Garg, senior spokesperson for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab, strongly condemned Bikram Singh Majithia for attempting to politicize the tragic murder of a councilor in Jandiala Guru. Addressing Majithia’s recent press conference, Garg stated that Majithia’s remarks were a desperate attempt to revive his political relevance by exploiting a sensitive issue. He criticized Majithia for stooping to such lows, using the death of an innocent individual to gain political mileage.
Garg said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Punjab Police operates with complete autonomy, without any political interference. “Unlike during Akali regime, where criminals and anti-social elements enjoyed political patronage, our government has empowered the police to take swift and impartial action. The arrest of the accused within 24 hours, along with the recovery of weapons, highlights the efficiency of the Punjab Police under the AAP government,” he said. Garg also pointed out that Punjab’s law and order situation is significantly better today, as acknowledged by both official data and the people of Punjab.
Urging Majithia to refrain from “politics on corpses,” Garg said, “It is shameful and unbecoming of any leader to exploit such tragedies for political gain. The people of Punjab will not forget how gangsterism flourished during the Akali-BJP regime. Majithia’s baseless allegations reflect his frustration with the fact that the AAP government is delivering on its promise of a crime-free Punjab.” Garg concluded by asking Majithia to respect the sanctity of such incidents and let the law take its course without unnecessary politicization.
