Chandigarh, May 1

Haryana’s Energy, Transport and Labour Minister Anil Vij hit back strongly at a Pakistani MP’s recent claim that a Pakistani soldier laid the first brick of the Babri structure. “They must be speaking in their dreams,” Vij said, adding, “Every single brick of Babri has been uprooted, and a grand Ram Temple now stands in its place.”

Vij, responding to media queries, dismissed the remark as baseless and delusional. “Even in their sleep, they are haunted by Ram Mandir,” he added, accusing the Pakistani MP of attempting to provoke sentiments with falsehoods.

On the subject of the caste-based census, recently approved by the Union Cabinet for inclusion in the upcoming national census, Vij stated that the decision was rooted in public opinion. “Most people believed a caste-based census should be conducted, and the government accepted it after studying the matter nationwide,” he said.

Reacting to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s assertion that his party had long advocated for a caste census, Vij mocked Gandhi’s consistency. “Rahul Gandhi says all sorts of things — he even once claimed that the moon would come down once a week. He’s made many such claims,” Vij quipped.

Addressing Gandhi’s criticism of the government’s handling of the recent Pahalgam terror attack, in which Gandhi demanded decisive action, Vij defended the Centre’s response. “The Prime Minister has spoken with seriousness; there is no ambiguity,” he said. “War isn’t declared on someone’s demand — strategy and timing matter. Pakistan is already scared; their leaders fear an imminent strike.”

Vij’s remarks reflect the BJP-led government’s aggressive posture on national security and its dismissive tone toward opposition narratives and foreign criticism.
