Chandigarh, February 16
Haryana’s Energy, Transport and Labour Minister Anil Vij inspected the newly installed high-speed lift in the 63-meter-high Memorial Tower of the Shaheed Smarak, being built in Ambala Cantonment in memory of the country’s First War of Independence in 1857.
The minister took the lift to the 12th floor and checked its functionality during the inspection.
As soon as the high-speed lift became operational, Sh. Vij reached the 12th floor from the ground in just 25 seconds. From the top, he admired the breathtaking view of Ambala Cantonment through the tower’s windows. This high-speed lift had recently been installed, and today he conducted its inspection.
Officials present at the site briefed the minister on the functionality of both lifts at the Memorial Tower. They explained that the tower has two high-speed lifts, which are significantly superior to regular lifts. Each lift has a capacity of 16 people and takes only 25 seconds to travel from the ground floor to the top 12th floor.
Anil Vij also reviewed the security and other arrangements inside the Memorial Tower.
He mentioned that the topmost floor offers a mesmerizing panoramic view of Ambala Cantonment, which visitors will surely appreciate. Following this, he inspected the other floors of the tower.
During the inspection, PWD (Electrical) XEN Naveen Rathi, along with BJP leaders Vijender Chauhan, Sanjeev Soni, B.S. Bindra, Harsh Bindra, Pramod Lucky, Ravi Budhiraja and others were present.
Notably, during an inspection on February 6, Sh. Anil Vij had visited the Memorial Tower, but upon finding the lift non-operational, he had directed officials to make it functional within 10 days.
Memorial tower shaped like a Lotus flower
The memorial tower, built in remembrance of the First War of Independence in 1857, is the main attraction of the Shaheed Smarak (Martyrs’ Memorial).
Designed in the shape of a Lotus flower and petals, the 63-meter-high tower will feature a 16-panel platform in front of it, dedicated as a tribute to the martyrs, with key historical figures of the revolution inscribed on it.
During the evening, the memorial tower will become a major attraction, featuring a Light and Sound Laser Show, which thousands of spectators seated in the gallery will be able to enjoy.
