Administration identifies 10 hot spot villages for stubble burning; DC orders SDMs and DSPs to contact farmers directly

Sets target to reduce fire incident by 80 % against last year

Setting the target to reduce the stubble burning incidents by 80 % against last year, Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal has ordered the SDMs and DSPs along with officials from agriculture and PPCB to make direct contact with farmers in “Hot Spots” across the district .
The administration has identified 10 Hot spot villages namely Begowal, Faridpur, Lakhan Kalan, Sabuwal , Shahpur Dogran, Kamalpur, Shatabgarh, Talwandi Chodhariya, Tibba and Lakhan ke , where maximum fire incidents were reported in 2023.
Chairing a meeting of higher officials from various departments here at DAC, Mr. Panchal said that “ the administration will encourage the farmers at every village to avoid the stubble burning and use the residue management machinery to save the environment.”
Urging the farmers “ to play the role of torch bearer like they did in green revolution era , Deputy commissioner said that the progressive farmers of the district must come forward to play the “ Vatavaran De Rakhe “ role as the district administration will also facilitate the farmers/ villages having zero stubble burning.
He also said that the administration has constituted district level and Sub division level monitoring committees besides appointing cluster officers after every 20 villages to keep a close watch on stubble burning cases.
The Deputy commissioner also strictly asked the cooperative department officials to ensure the full utilisation of machinery at 83 cooperative societies across the district. He also asked the police officials to provide protection, if needed to staff deputed in the field to curb stubble burning .
It may be mentioned here that stubble burning would invite fine from Rs. 2500 to having lang below 2 acres , 2500 to 5000 for farmers having land between 2 to 5 acres any Rs.15000 to farmers above 5 acres of land , if found guilty.
Prominent amongst the present in the meeting included ADC ( G) Shikha Bhagat , all SDMs , DSPs and officials from agriculture, Revenue, cooperative , PPCB, Rural development etc .
