Incessant rain further worsens flood situation; water level in Beas river rises to 1.88 lakh cusecs

The District administration and followers of Rajya Sabha member Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal evacuated more than one hundred flood affected persons including women and children from the worst flood affected villages in the Mand areas of Sultanpur Lodhi.
The state disaster and response team and followers of Seechewal are spear heading the rescue operations in worst affected villages Baupur jadid, Baupur Kadim, Sangra, Rampur Gora, and Ahlikalan.
Meanwhile, breach in temporary bundh raised by farmers inside dhussi bundh has further widened to 500 feet according to official sources.
Meanwhile, incessant rains for the past more than four days have further worsened the flood situation in Kapurthala, Sultanpur Lodhi and Bholath inundating more than 56 villages under 5 to 8 feet of water according to official sources.
Punjab revenue minister Hardip Singh Mundian, Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal, Senior Superientendent of Police Gaurav Toora, Sant Seechewal and drainage department officers today visited flood-affected villages and appealed to the affected farmers to leave their houses and shift to safer places as water level is rising.
Sant Seechewal announced five motor boats to five village panchayats from his MP funds within few days.
Meanwhile, Beas river is flowing at 1.88 lakh cusecs at Dhilwan and the city surrounding areas have experienced rainfall since early morning and low lying areas are filled with water.
