Act Swiftly before spike in dengue cases, DC Aashika Jain to officials

Reviewing the anti-Dengue activities launched in the district to curb the spread of disease, the Deputy Commissioner, Ashika Jain directed the officials to act swiftly before the spike in the cases.

Taking a joint meeting of Dengue Task Force under the National Vector Borne Diseases Control Programme, DC Jain said that the urban as well as rural masses would be made aware of the breeding period of Dengue Mosquito larvae. They would be apprised of the observance of Dry Day on every Friday by drying all the stagnant water in air coolers, refrigerator tray, waste material, old tyres, flower pots etc. Besides, intensive fogging would also be done by preparing a schedule in urban as well as rural areas. The village ponds must be mixed with diesel or waste fuel oil where Gambusia fish was not added to the ponds.

Stressing the need to monitor populous urban cities Mohali, Kharar, Zirakpur and Derabassi, the deputy commissioner asked the local bodies officials present in the meeting to ensure 100 percent Challaning of the residents and organisations where the Dengue Larvae has been found during the checking. She said that we can’t endanger the lives of others due to the laxity of a few people.

Expressing concern over the previous years’ data about the spike in Dengue cases in rural areas too, she directed the DDPO, Amarinder Pal Singh Chauhan to instruct the BDPOs to ensure fogging in the villages besides making aware the people of the seriousness of the Dengue.

She asked the District Education Officers, Elementary and Secondary to sensitise the students, how to deprive the Dengue Mosquito larvae that takes merely 7 days to become an adult mosquito. She said that the students can easily spread the awareness among their parents to make the surroundings free of stagnant water.

The district epidemiologist apprised the deputy commissioner that so far a total of 8 slides of Dengue have come to fore in the district and we have to be vigilant from its’ further spread.

The deputy commissioner assigned the task of daily monitoring of the teams of MCs and Health department to the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Urban Development) Damanjit Singh Mann. She said that as the intensive campaign to make the people aware of the Dengue Mosquito has been launched, so the nodal officers from each local body make ensure prompt action for prevention of the disease.
