Reaffirming its unwavering commitment to eliminating corruption, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Punjab government has taken decisive action against Jalandhar MLA Raman Arora following public complaints of corruption against him. This bold move underscores the party’s zero-tolerance policy against corruption and sets a new benchmark in governance.
Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema emphasized AAP’s founding mission to fight corruption. “Corruption, in any form, will not be tolerated, whether it involves someone within our party or outside. Unlike previous governments that shielded the corrupt, AAP ensures accountability and justice through strict actions,” said Cheema. He criticized past regimes for using corruption cases as tools of intimidation while asserting that AAP’s governance is transparent and evidence-based.
Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sondh lauded AAP’s core principle of zero tolerance for corruption, distinguishing it from the inaction of Congress and SAD-BJP governments over decades. “No corrupt MLA or bureaucrat is spared under AAP. The rule of law prevails, and proven cases are punished swiftly,” he said, reiterating AAP’s mission for transparency and accountability.
AAP leader Baltej Pannu highlighted the proactive stance of CM Bhagwant Mann, whose impeccable record is reflected in the decisive action against corruption. “Unlike previous governments that buried such cases, our administration is transparent and firm. The Chief Minister personally oversees complaints, ensuring accountability at the highest level,” Pannu stated.
AAP leader Pawan Kumar Tinu underscored the significance of this step in fulfilling AAP’s 2022 promise of corruption-free governance. “Taking action against one of our own is unprecedented in Indian politics. It sends a strong message that corruption will not be tolerated under any circumstances,” he said.
AAP leader Dr. S. S. Ahluwalia said that since Sardar Bhagwant Mann’s government came to power in 2022, no one indulging in corruption has been spared. “Complaints of corruption against MLA Raman Arora were immediately addressed by the Chief Minister, leading to a swift investigation and action. This proves our zero-tolerance stance,” he said, adding that the AAP government is here to serve the people, not exploit them.
AAP Leader Babbi Badal highlighted the exploitation under previous governments, where MLA and officers acted as collection agents. “Today, AAP has taken an unprecedented step by arresting its own MLA, demonstrating that no one is above the law. It’s a message to Punjabis: report corruption without fear, and justice will prevail,” said Badal.
AAP leader Bikramjit Passi pointed out the stark difference between AAP and previous Congress regimes. “While Congress protected the corrupt, AAP acts decisively based on evidence. Opposition claims are baseless distractions. AAP remains committed to eradicating corruption to serve Punjab effectively,” he said.
