The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has strongly reacted to the statement made by Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring regarding the Punjab Government’s ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ campaign. AAP leader Baltej Pannu stated that the success of this historic campaign against drugs has deeply troubled opposition parties, as it is the first time any government in Punjab has launched such a massive crackdown against the drug mafia.
He added that no Congress or BJP-ruled state in the country has ever undertaken such a campaign against drugs. Hence, some leaders are attempting to undermine the AAP government’s efforts.
Pannu said that in the past two months, Punjab Police and local administration have taken significant action against drug smugglers. During this period, over 10,000 people were arrested, and thousands of kilograms of narcotics were seized. Simultaneously, teams of AAP leaders and workers have been conducting awareness campaigns across every corner of Punjab over the past two weeks to free society from drugs.
Pannu launched a scathing attack on the Congress party and other opposition leaders, saying that these are the same people who talk about opening licenses for opium and poppy husk when in power because they don’t want drugs to end in Punjab. Instead, they aim to replace one addiction with another. Pannu alleged that when these parties were in power, they not only refrained from taking action against the drug mafia but also provided them with political and economic patronage for their benefit.
He also targeted former Congress Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, stating that in 2017, he had sworn on Gutka Sahib and promised to end drugs within four weeks. However, during his four-and-a-half-year tenure, he did nothing, and the drug problem worsened under his rule.
Pannu said that opposition parties have an extremely poor track record on the issue of drugs, which is why they have no moral right to speak on this matter. He clarified that the Aam Aadmi Party’s campaign is not a political stunt but a people’s movement to make Punjab drug-free. Together with the police, administration, and the general public, AAP is working to eradicate the drug problem from its roots.
