Punjab Public Works Minister Harbhajan Singh E. T. O. Appreciating the budget presented by the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann for the financial year 2026-2027, he said that in this budget, the budget for construction, renovation and maintenance of roads, bridges and public buildings has been increased to Rs 5,440 crore for expansion of road and bridge infrastructure across the state and to ensure planned maintenance of existing assets, which is double the budget for the financial year 2025-26 (Budget Estimates).
He informed that an initial outlay of Rs 1500 crore is proposed in the financial year 2026-27 for upgradation and improvement in connectivity of 2,570 km long plan roads across the state, which will further strengthen the intra- and inter-district road network of the district. In addition, Rs 130 crore is being reserved for completion of 31 ongoing bridges and construction of new bridges.
Harbhajan Singh E. T. O. informed that under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY-III) during the financial year 2025-26, about 500 km of rural roads are expected to be completed at an estimated cost of Rs. 290 crore. In addition, in the financial year 2026-27, it is proposed to upgrade 400 km of roads under this scheme at an estimated cost of Rs. 400 crore. Also, an amount of Rs. 300 crore is proposed for upgradation of 100 km of roads and construction of 06 railway under bridges/over bridges under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund, which will strengthen road connectivity and safety across the state.
He said that due to the efforts of the Bhagwant Singh Mann government, a world-class road network will be created in the state.
On this occasion, he also appreciated the launch of the scheme Mukhya Mantri Mawan Dhian Satkar Yojana, which was launched to provide financial assistance of Rs. 1000 and Rs. 1500 every month to the women of the state. He said that with the launch of this scheme, the women of the state will feel the sense of economic independence.
