“Save Me”: West Indies Cricketer Akeal Hosein Stranded in India Seeks Ronaldo’s Help

New Delhi | March 07, 2026

The West Indies team remains stuck in India after their exit from the T20 World Cup 2026. International flights have been disrupted due to the ongoing war between the US, Israel, and Iran in West Asia, preventing several players from returning home. In the midst of this, West Indies spinner Akeal Hosein posted a humorous plea on social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), which quickly went viral.

Akeal Hosein jokingly tagged football star Cristiano Ronaldo, writing, “I’ll tell Ronaldo to send a helicopter to rescue me from here.” However, he deleted the post shortly after. Notably, West Indies were knocked out of the tournament after losing to India on March 1, but with air routes closed and flights canceled, the players are still in Kolkata.

Cricket West Indies (CWI) has stated they are arranging a special charter flight for the players’ return, but final approval from aviation authorities is pending. According to Bengal Cricket Association officials, the departure situation for South Africa’s team alongside West Indies also remains unclear. This crisis caused by the war has intensified the players’ difficulties, as they are eager to reunite with their families soon.
