Weather Update: Temperatures Above Normal in Punjab and Chandigarh

Patiala Records 33.2°C, Dry Weather Until March 12

Punjab and Chandigarh are now experiencing summer-like weather. Over the past 24 hours, the state’s average maximum temperature has dropped by 0.3°C but remains 7.5°C above normal. Patiala recorded the highest temperature at 33.2°C.

Dry Conditions Expected

Weather is expected to remain dry until March 12 with no chance of rain. The department has issued no further warnings. Punjab has been facing heat since late February due to intense sunlight and lack of western disturbances. Temperatures across all cities in the state are above 30°C, with Patiala at 33.2°C—significantly higher than normal.

City Temperatures

Other areas recorded: Ferozepur at 33.0°C, Ludhiana at 32.8°C, and Amritsar at 32.6°C. Minimum temperatures also rose, with Bathinda at 13.9°C.

Rainfall Deficit

From March 1 to 6, 2026, no rain fell anywhere in Punjab. Districts like Amritsar, Ludhiana, Patiala, and Pathankot saw similar dry conditions. Normally, about 6.1 mm of rain occurs by this time, but this year it is 100% below average.

Forecast Ahead

The weather department predicts continued dry conditions. No major changes in maximum temperatures are expected over the next five days. A slight drop of 2-3°C is possible in the next two days.
