NHAI will end cash payments at all national highway toll plazas from April 1, 2026, mandating digital transactions via FASTag or UPI across 1,150+ plazas and expressways.​

Benefits

Eliminates queues, change disputes, traffic jams; boosts transparency, cuts revenue leaks. 98% vehicles already FASTag-equipped; non-compliant cash payers currently double fee, UPI 1.25x—cash option vanishes post-deadline.​

Implementation

Aligns with Digital India; enhances data management, commuter ease. Peak-hour delays minimized via seamless RFID/UPI ops.​
