Nationwide Voter List Special Intensive Revision (SIR) Announced Across India
New Delhi: February 20, 2026
Election Commission of India (ECI) launched comprehensive Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign to update voter lists nationwide. Process already underway in 12 states now extends to remaining 23 states/UTs including Punjab, Haryana, Delhi starting April 1.
Add newly eligible 18+ voters.
Remove deceased, shifted, or duplicate entries.
Special focus: Identify illegal migrants to ensure clean lists.
Correct name/address errors.
Last such intensive update occurred in 2004 after 21-year gap.
SDM-level officers appointed per assembly constituency as registration officials.
Booth Level Officers (BLOs) conduct door-to-door verification.
Appeals: District Magistrate (1st), State Chief Electoral Officer (2nd).
Official notification with draft roll publication and final list timelines expected soon. ECI directed state officials to accelerate preparations.
