Kolkata Airport Narrow Escape: Turkish Airlines Engine Fire Triggers Emergency Landing

Kolkata, February 4, 2026: A major disaster was averted at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport when a Turkish Airlines flight made an emergency landing due to a technical fault. The Istanbul-bound flight from Kathmandu, Nepal carrying 236 passengers had to return after the pilot suspected fire in the right engine.

Safe Landing After Tense Moments

According to ANI reports, the aircraft landed safely at 2:49 PM following immediate contact with Kolkata Air Traffic Control (ATC). Airport authorities declared a full emergency. Relief swept through as all 236 passengers and crew remained unharmed.

Investigation Underway

The airport director confirmed the aircraft is grounded for inspection. Technical teams are determining whether an actual engine fire occurred or if it was just a warning signal. Pilot’s alertness and prompt decision-making prevented potential tragedy.

Passenger accommodation has been arranged pending investigation completion. Turkish Airlines is expected to issue a detailed statement soon, with alternative flights being considered for onward travel.
