Bikram Majithia Released: Sukhbir Badal Visits, Verbal War Erupts Between AAP and BJP
Chandigarh/Mohali, February 4, 2026: Shiromani Akali Dal senior leader Bikram Singh Majithia was released from Nabha Jail after seven months in detention and reached Chandigarh. SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal visited Majithia’s residence for a meeting. Supporters welcomed him with a shower of flower petals at his Chandigarh home.
Release from Jail and Sharp Statements
Released on Tuesday, Majithia first paid obeisance at historic Gurdwara Sri Dukh Nivaran Sahib in Patiala. There, he launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann:
“The government wanted me to die in jail. I want to tell Bhagwant Mann that I survived eating brinjal juice. What’s your condition, Samba?”
Case Background
Majithia was arrested by Punjab Vigilance Department in June 2025 in a disproportionate assets case. After prolonged legal battle, the Supreme Court granted him bail on February 2, 2026. His jail meeting with Dera Beas head Baba Gurinder Singh Dhillon that day sparked further controversy.
Bhagwant Mann vs BJP Clash
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann commented on the court decision and Dera head’s visit: “Courts are protected by the Almighty himself, where visitors become judges themselves.”
BJP strongly objected to this statement:
BJP’s Response: Spokesperson Pritpal Singh Baliwal said the Chief Minister has now started criticizing religious figures too. He stated that Radha Swami Satsang Beas head represents the faith of lakhs of people, and Punjabis will respond to this insult.
