Published by: Gill Bikram

Chandigarh/Mohali, February 4, 2026: Thick fog has brought daily life to a standstill in Punjab and Chandigarh this morning. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘Yellow Alert’ for fog across 15 districts. Visibility in Chandigarh dropped to zero, severely impacting air and road traffic.

Flight Disruptions

Fog led to the cancellation of two flights between Chandigarh and Delhi from Chandigarh airport. Services to Mumbai, Bengaluru, Goa, and Abu Dhabi are delayed by 2-3 hours.

Affected Districts and Highway Conditions

The 15 impacted districts include Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Bathinda, and Ferozepur.

  • Highways: Travelers on the Amritsar-Delhi highway face fog and cloud cover.

  • Visibility Reports: Adampur and Nawanshahr at 10 meters; Bathinda at 50 meters; Halwara at 100 meters.

Temperature and Western Disturbance

A Western Disturbance over northern Pakistan and adjacent Punjab areas is fueling the conditions.

  • Forecast: Maximum temperatures 18-20°C; minimum 4-6°C.

  • Coldest Spot: Bathinda recorded 3.6°C. Experts predict a gradual warming trend soon.

Outlook for Coming Days

A new Western Disturbance activates over the Himalayas from February 5 night, potentially prolonging cold and fog for the next week. Dry weather is expected until February 7 with no special warnings.
