Punjab Weather Update: ‘Orange Alert’ for 3 Days Amid Dense Fog and Cold Wave Fury
Punjab and Chandigarh are bracing for another weather shift. Snowfall in the hills and thunderstorms in the plains have caused a sharp drop in temperatures. The Meteorological Department has issued an Orange Alert for dense fog and cold wave conditions until January 30.

Maximum temperatures have fallen 3.1°C below recent levels.
Ludhiana recorded the state’s lowest minimum at 7.7°C.
Bathinda’s maximum stayed at 18°C.

Today (January 28), light to moderate rain is possible in three key districts: Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, and Rupnagar.

January 29: Dense fog likely in Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Mohali, and several others. Strong cold winds expected in Malwa region districts like Bathinda, Ferozepur, and Muktsar.
January 30: Fog and chill persist; another Western Disturbance may activate at night, potentially altering conditions further.
January 31: Rain possible in some areas, but no specific alert issued.

Director Surender Pal warns minimum temperatures could drop another 3-5°C in the next two days. Dense fog will severely reduce road visibility, so drivers are urged to exercise caution.
