Delhi High Court Deals Major Blow to Kuldeep Singh Sengar in Custodial Death Case
Former MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, prime accused in the Unnao rape case, suffered a significant setback as Delhi High Court rejected his plea to suspend his sentence in the custodial death matter.
Case: Related to the death of the Unnao rape victim’s father in police custody.
Ruling: Justice Ravindra Dudeja dismissed Sengar’s suspension request—he remains in jail.
Sentence: Trial court awarded 10-year rigorous imprisonment in 2019.
Sengar sought relief citing:
Health Issues: Diabetes, cataracts, retinal detachment.
Treatment Plea: Requested transfer from Tihar Jail to AIIMS Delhi.
Long Incarceration: Claimed sufficient time served.
CBI: Described it as grave case of abduction, assault, custodial death.
Family Pressure: Alleged Sengar used influence to silence victim’s family.
Justice Demand: Any relief undermines justice for heinous crime.
Notably, Supreme Court on Dec 29 stayed High Court’s earlier order suspending Sengar’s life sentence in the main Unnao rape case. He already serves life imprisonment for that conviction.
Sengar continues serving multiple sentences across both cases.
