Baloch Community Moves Gujarat High Court Against Dialogue in Film ‘Dhurandhar’

Ahmedabad, December 24, 2025 (01:31 PM IST)

A new controversy has erupted around the currently successful Bollywood film “Dhurandhar,” with the matter reaching the Gujarat High Court. Some members of the Baloch community have approached the court, seeking action against the film’s makers and the removal of a controversial dialogue.

According to a Times of India report, residents Yaseen Baloch from Gandhinagar and Ayubkhan Baloch from Banaskantha have filed a petition demanding action against film director Aditya Dhar. They allege that the film uses hate speech targeting the Baloch community.

The petitioners have specifically objected to a dialogue delivered by a character played by Sanjay Dutt, which states, “You can trust a crocodile, but not a Baloch.” They have demanded that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) should alter the film’s certificate unless the dialogue is permanently muted or deleted.

What are the petitioners’ main arguments?

The petitioners have appealed to the court to direct the CBFC to review the film again and ensure strict adherence to constitutional and legal guidelines. They have sought a ban on any further exhibition, broadcast, or streaming of the film with this dialogue intact.

They argue that the dialogue targets the Baloch community and promotes hostile stereotypes against them, thereby violating the constitutional guarantee of equality before the law. The petition cites precedents where courts intervened to order the removal of objectionable content from films like ‘Jolly LLB 2’, ‘Padmaavat’, and ‘Adipurush’.

The petition is scheduled for a hearing on Wednesday.
