Punjab Secures Major Investment Boost in Japan and Korea; Multiple MoUs Signed

Chandigarh, December 12: Punjab has unlocked a significant wave of foreign investment and industrial partnerships following a high-level business and government delegation’s visit to Japan and South Korea. The visit resulted in major MoUs, renewed corporate interest, and landmark upcoming announcements that together signal a transformational phase for the state’s manufacturing, technology, agriculture, and sports-education sectors.

Two Major MoUs Signed: ₹900 Crore Investment Assured

During the Japan leg of the visit, two major Memoranda of Understanding were signed.
• Toppan, the global printing and digital solutions leader, committed to an additional ₹400 crore investment in Punjab.
• Aichi Steel, a Toyota Group company, entered a ₹500 crore MoU with Vardhman Steels, boosting Punjab’s footprint in the high-grade steel and automotive materials supply chain.

Officials described these MoUs as a major confidence-building milestone that places Punjab firmly on the map for Japanese industrial investment.

Honda Motor Co Shows Interest in Motorcycle Manufacturing Unit in Punjab

In another significant breakthrough, Honda Motor Co expressed active interest in establishing a motorcycle manufacturing unit in Punjab. This potential project—if finalized in the coming months—could turn Punjab into a northern hub for two-wheeler production and generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs.

The delegation also held discussions with Pankaj Munjal of Hero Yamaha Motors, signalling increased cooperation between Punjab’s homegrown automotive ecosystem and global manufacturers.

Agriculture & Food Processing: Sunjin Expands Its Commitment

Korean agribusiness major Sunjin assured the delegation it would increase its animal feed production capacity in Punjab. This aligns with the state’s objective to modernize its livestock and dairy value chains with global technology and expertise.

The meetings also included companies that showcased advanced paddy-straw-based processing technologies, an area Punjab is aggressively promoting to reduce stubble burning and increase bio-economy opportunities.

Yanmar’s Tie-Up with International Tractors Strengthened

Japan’s Yanmar, already in partnership with International Tractors, discussed new areas of cooperation. This includes an advanced agricultural equipment manufacturing ecosystem and the potential direct takeover of a Morinda-based agri-implements company—an investment expected to modernize machinery production in the state.

Korea National Sports University Plans JV With Punjab Universities

A major highlight of the Korea engagements was the keen interest shown by the Korea National Sports University (KNSU)—recognized globally for producing Olympic-level athletes. KNSU expressed its intention to form joint ventures with Punjab’s universities to elevate sports science, athlete training, performance analytics, and international-standard coaching programs. This could position Punjab as India’s next major sports-education centre.

Massive Outreach to Leading Companies and Institutions

The delegation met an extensive list of global corporations and institutions, including:
Yamaha, JBIC (Japan Bank for International Cooperation), Aisan Industries, Toray Textile Division, Fujitsu (Vivek Mahajan), Tokushima Auction Markets, Osaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Air Water Inc, Rengo Co Ltd, Koizumu Co Ltd, JETRO, Indian Chamber of Commerce Japan, and more.

The Osaka Chamber of Commerce, with its powerful base of 30,000 members, expressed readiness to facilitate business-to-business linkages between its member companies and Punjab-based industries.

From Korea, the team engaged with major institutional stakeholders such as KITA, KOSME, Korea Display Industry Association, Korea University, Sungkyunkwan University, Lee & Ko Attorneys, Yulchon LLC, and several leading industrial groups and investment firms.

Amber International Set to Announce ₹500 Crore R&D Centre in Rajpura

Adding to the investment momentum, it has been confirmed that Amber International, which supplies to giants like LG and Samsung, will announce a ₹500 crore Research & Development Centre in Rajpura on 18 December. This will be one of Punjab’s largest electronics R&D investments and is expected to catalyse high-tech manufacturing in the region.
