40th National Convention of Chemical Engineers Inaugurated at Chandigarh

Chandigarh, December 6: The 40th National Convention of Chemical Engineers and National Seminar on “Green Energy Technologies and AI Enabled Sustainable Chemical Processes” was inaugurated on 6 December 2025 at the Institution of Engineers (India), Punjab & Chandigarh State Centre, Chandigarh. The event was organized by the Chemical Engineering Division Board, IEI, in association with Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University, Patiala, and Sunny Oberoi Vivek Sadan, Sri Anandpur Sahib.

Former Vice-Chancellor of GNA University Dr. V. K. Rattan graced the occasion as Chief Guest, while Dr. Avinash Chandra, Professor & Head, Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, was the Guest of Honour. The inauguration began with the Lighting of the Lamp followed by a welcome address from Dr. Baljit Singh Khehra, FIE, Chairman of the Centre. Convener Dr. Jodh Singh introduced the theme and objectives of the Convention.

Three Eminent Engineers — Dr. Kailas L. Wasewar, Er. Om Sahai, and Dr. Chinthapudi Eswaraiah — and two Young Engineers — Dr. Vineet Aniya and Dr. Sourav Sengupta — were honoured during the session. The Proceedings-cum-Souvenir of the Convention was also released.

Special lectures were delivered by Prof. Vimal Chandra Srivastava (IIT Roorkee) and Prof. S. K. Kansal (Panjab University). Er. Karnail Singh, Honorary Secretary, proposed the vote of thanks.

Around 100 engineers, academicians, research scholars and students from across the country participated in the Convention.
