Violence Erupts Again in Bangladesh as Court Verdict on Sheikh Hasina Expected Today

Bangladesh has once again plunged into political turmoil as fresh violence has erupted across multiple cities. Supporters of the opposition Awami League have launched widespread protests against the Yunus-led interim government, triggering severe unrest and prompting the authorities to issue high alert nationwide.

Unrest Spreads Across Major Cities

Several areas, including the capital Dhaka, witnessed arson, vandalism, and clashes between protesters and security forces. Buses and government buildings were set ablaze as tensions escalated late into the night. Videos circulating on local media showed thick plumes of smoke rising from major intersections while security personnel attempted to disperse mobs.

Shoot-on-Sight Orders Issued

In response to the intensifying violence, the interim government has issued shoot-on-sight orders against those involved in rioting and destruction of property. To gain control of the situation, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel have been deployed across sensitive locations, including government institutions, major transit routes, and commercial hubs.

Awaited Court Verdict on Sheikh Hasina

The unrest has intensified ahead of a crucial court verdict involving former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, expected to be delivered later today. Her supporters claim the case is politically motivated, while the interim government insists due legal process is being followed.

Political observers warn that the upcoming verdict could further inflame tensions, as Hasina remains a deeply influential figure in Bangladeshi politics despite being ousted from power.

Government Urges Calm

Authorities have appealed to the public to maintain peace and avoid violence, stressing that strict action will be taken against those attempting to destabilize the situation. Meanwhile, emergency services remain on standby across major cities amid fears of renewed clashes.

Bangladesh, already grappling with economic slowdowns and political divisions, now faces one of its most volatile moments in recent years as the nation awaits the court’s decision on Sheikh Hasina.
