Horrific Accident on Hyderabad–Bengaluru Highway: 32 Feared Burned Alive After Bus Catches Fire
A devastating road accident occurred early Friday morning near Chinna Tekuru village in Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool district, where at least 32 passengers are feared dead after a private bus caught fire following a collision with a motorcycle on the Hyderabad–Bengaluru Highway.
According to eyewitnesses, the Kaveri Travels bus was engulfed in flames within minutes of the crash. The bus, carrying 44 passengers, was traveling from Hyderabad to Bengaluru when the incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. Twelve passengers reportedly managed to escape by breaking the windows, while the remaining passengers were trapped inside as the blaze spread rapidly.
Police officials said the motorcycle got trapped under the bus, striking its fuel tank and causing an explosion that led to a massive fire. “The flames spread throughout the vehicle almost instantly,” an officer confirmed. Most passengers were asleep at the time of the accident, leaving them little chance to react.
Local residents rushed to the scene before fire brigade teams arrived, trying to rescue as many people as possible and transport the injured to nearby hospitals. Fire and rescue personnel are currently on-site, working to extinguish the blaze and recover bodies, though the official death toll has yet to be confirmed.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed deep grief and condolences to the families of the victims. He directed district officials to ensure immediate medical assistance for the injured and to expedite relief operations.
This tragic incident comes just a week after another deadly bus fire in Rajasthan, where 22 people died on October 14 on the Jaisalmer–Jodhpur route. In that case, the fire was caused by a short circuit and gas leak in the air-conditioning unit.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of Friday’s Kurnool highway tragedy.
