Couple linked to 17 NDPS and Excise Act cases faces crackdown

Kapurthala, October 11: A demolition drive was carried out on a house built by drug smugglers on panchayat land in village Sechan on the orders of BDPO Sultanpur Lodhi .
It is noteworthy that in the village of Sechan, under the police station of Sultanpur Lodhi, Sarabjit Singh alias Babbi of Sechan, and his wife, Jaspal Kaur alias Suman, had built a house by occupying approximately 7 marlas of panchayat land in the village. Both husband and wife were facing 17 NDPS cases, out of which 10 cases were registered against the husband and 7 against the wife.
SSP Kapurthala Gaurav Toora said that as per the orders given by BDPO Sultanpur Lodhi, the police had provided the adequate security to the Rural Development department for taking Possession of their land.
BDPO Sultanpur Lodhi stated that the Gram Panchayat issued notices to Sarabjit Singh and his wife three times under Section 34 of the Punjab Panchayati Raj Act 1994 to vacate the panchayat site, but the concerned illegal occupants did not vacate the site.
Toora said that the Panchayat Department had written to the police to provide police security to take possession of the panchayat site, under which police security was provided.
