Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal today, while reviewing the ongoing paddy procurement process in the district, directed officials to ensure lifting of procured crops along with timely payment to farmers within the stipulated period.
Chairing a meeting with officials of Food and Civil Supplies, District Mandi Board, and Agriculture Department at the District Administrative Complex, the Deputy Commissioner instructed that lifting of procured paddy from mandis must be ensured within 72 hours so that farmers do not face any difficulty in bringing their produce to the markets. He further directed that payment for procured paddy must be released within 48 hours.
Reiterating Punjab Government’s commitment to purchase every grain of farmers’ produce, Dr. Aggarwal said that the district administration would ensure farmers face no inconvenience in mandis. He asked officials to personally visit mandis, remain in constant touch with farmers, and immediately resolve any issues related to procurement.
Appealing to farmers, he urged them not to use harvesters at night and to harvest paddy between 10 am and 6 pm to avoid excessive moisture content. He instructed officials to strictly ensure the use of Super SMS with combine harvesters during harvesting.
Dr. Aggarwal also emphasized spreading awareness among farmers about the harmful effects of stubble burning while motivating them for proper stubble management. He said special focus must be given to villages where more cases of stubble burning were reported last year. Cluster officers have been deployed to monitor such incidents and take immediate action.
He further directed officials to make farmers aware about the availability of machinery for stubble management with cooperative societies so that maximum farmers could use this machinery and contribute to protecting the environment.
The meeting was attended by DFSC Harveen Kaur, District Mandi Officer Arvinder Singh, and Chief Agriculture Officer Dr. Jaswinder Singh.
