Chandigarh: CTU bus overturns in Sector 17

A major road accident took place today in one of Chandigarh’s busiest areas, Sector-17. According to initial reports, a Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) bus lost control and overturned near the Parade Ground. Several passengers were injured and rushed to a nearby hospital.

The mishap occurred near the Parade Ground when the bus was taking a turn. The overturned vehicle was identified as an electric CTU bus (Route No. 28) traveling from Manimajra to the Sector-17 bus stand.
Preliminary information suggests that the bus was speeding, which led the driver to lose control at the curve. The bus then toppled and landed on the cycle track.

At the time of the accident, around 15–20 passengers were on board.

About 10–12 passengers sustained injuries and were immediately shifted to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital, Sector-16.

Police, rescue teams, and local residents promptly reached the spot, helping to evacuate the trapped passengers from the bus.

The police have taken custody of the bus and begun an investigation into the incident. Officials are questioning the driver to determine whether overspeeding, a technical fault, or some other reason caused the accident. An official statement from the authorities is awaited.
