In a prompt and coordinated effort, eight workers who were stranded in a factory at Lohara village following continuous heavy rainfall were rescued by NDRF team under the close watch of district administration. Acting on reports of the trapped workers, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal immediately called one of the two teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) which was stationed in Shahkot, which carried out the rescue operation successfully and brought all the workers to safety.
Reviewing the relief and rescue measures, Dr. Aggarwal said the Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, was fully committed to protecting the lives of people during any flood-like situation. He informed that the incessant rains over the past two days had led to the overflowing of drains. It was in view of this emerging situation that two NDRF teams were called in last night and stationed in Shahkot, he added.
The Deputy Commissioner in presence of SDM Randeep Heer and Rajwinder Kaur Thiara assured the public of complete Government support in this hour of crisis.
